The Real Refs are Back
Tonight's game will be officiated by real officials. That should calm down the gamblers in Vegas who have been taking a bath the last few weeks. This is most probably the reason the strike got settled. You can mess with the American people, but don't screw with Vegas. They have something on everybody.
Interesting to note though that the two most egregious errors, the missed field goal called good in the Ravens/Pats game and the interception/offensive pass interference called an offensive catch in the Packers/Seahawks gamed both went to the home team. In fact, I read that the officials, most of whom have officiated games with less than a thousand fans present, were increasingly fearful of the crowds and even feared riots if they ruled for the opposing teams at the end. The official on the goal post who called the Ravens kick good signaled it 10 yards in front of the post only seconds after the ball went by the post. He wasn't under the post looking up, he was in front looking back.
The saddest thing to me was the complete collapse of the Pats' defense. It looked worse than last year's, with no pressure on the quarterback, no coverage on the edges, and pass after pass over the secondary's heads for long completions. The Pats have lost two game in the last seconds on field goals made or missed, but until this game it didn't worry me much. Now I'm worried.
A quick look at last week's final picks summary shows the havoc the substitute refs have caused. Only three members even broke even, and only Kirk had a winning record with 9-7. Both Diane and Brandy-Ryan were 8-8. In spite of all this, the pecking order remains about the same. Elastic Ed and Kate have 31 points, Kirk 30, Jo 29, Wayne 28, Ken and Diane 27, and Brandy-ryan 25.
The blog has been quite quiet as I assume the members lick their wounds. This week's match-ups seem to indicate a rebound will occur. In spite of insinuations that the Commissioner is guilt of BWI, that has never been the case, although that leaves precious little time in his day to work on the picks. Also, living the past 5 months with four young people in their 20's, the Commissioner's sleep schedule has been turned upside down. Luke leaves anywhere between 3 and 4 in the morning for work, and he says good night to the other three who are just settling in for the night.
At any rate, the Commissioner thanks all the members who help him by bringing to his attention any small errors made by his staff.

Brandy Has a Point
The Commissioner welcomes member Brandy's comments regarding the many complaints that seem to be flowing about in the posts. He seconds her request for civility and poise, especially with regard to the tension the substitute officials have brought to the picks members have made unsuccessfully. Frustration is at an all time high, just as success is at an all time low in the league.
This past week has been the low water mark so far with most members struggling to get to .500 with their picks. It is important to note that each member shares the frustration, even those who are silent, or, in Easy Ed's case, comatose.
While the Commissioner endorses Brandy's comments, he is a bit puzzled as to what team she is the MVP of, and in what statistic she is currently the leader. I'm sure future posts will sort that out.
As to criticism of the Commissioner missing member picks for the week, he reminds league members to use blog posts to publish their picks, or email to the commissioner. Picks in "Comments" can easily be missed, especially since the Commissioner chose to take himself off the comments email alert when the limit of 10 was exceeded with the new league members. He does promise to check the weekly schedule post for comments if members find it most convenient. However, he will not guarantee missing picks in comments generally.

First of all, I just want to say that there is a lot of whining going on in this league. "I picked this... I picked that." As the MVP of last year's team, my advise is to just suck it up. Since I am now currently in the lead I am available to provide helpful hints for any of you that may be falling behind.

Commish has lost it
Dear Commish,
Are you still coherent? It is clear that Kirk and Di both picked the Giants. However, Cuz may have bigger problems thinking the Jets are playing twice this week. It would be fine if they lost two in the same week! It may be the glasses or maybe it is Whiskey Wayne. I believe Cuz picked the Panthers. Is there any quality control in that office? Fire the elves. I'd rather have Rob Roy calling the "shots".

Thursday Night Picks
Wayne's not confused! It's one of those 3 team games like when Scott picked the Bears over the Falcons and Chiefs.
That said, this week it'll be the Panthers over both the G-Men and the Jets or whoever else is playing Thursday night.
So...

Corrections, Comments, etc.
The amended week 2 final picks grid:
The Commissioner's Comments:
- Correction Alert! Kate has vaulted into a tie for the league lead in points with 24, tied with Easy Ed. Cuz Wayne is next with 23, then Jo with 22, Kevin with 21 and Kirk with 20.
- Another Correction Alert. Kate goes back to a tie for second. When analyzing the results for the Commissioner noticed that his staff had not mark Kate's Cowboys pick as incorrect, thus bringing her total back to 23. Members are reminded that all scoring errors are to be reported to the commissioner.
- Many shockers this week. The Pats, 14 point favorites lost, as did Dallas, Washington, the Saints,
- Picks of the Week. Bran and Ryan picked the Seahawks over the Cowboys. The Ghost picked the Panthers over the Saints.

Challenge!
Call me Belichick......I am reaching for my challenge flag yet again
Please take notice that I, Kate, picked San Diego to win over the Titans!
Dear Commish,
Please add my point for the Chargers win over the Titans.
Kindly,
Kate - The Future Champ (sorry Patrick, not going to happen again this year)
P.S. Don't let it happen again or disciplinary action will be taken with a SAC, I mean by the SAC.

A CATASTROPHE OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS
Here are the week of week 2. The Commissioner's Comments™will be late this week or maybe not at all. He is in a severe state of depression and is not accepting cards, letters, phone calls, emails, texts, sexts, skype, or visits. You may leave bottles of rum, scotch and vodka at my door.

Commish
Go Sox! Just thought I'd joke around a bit. Too bad the Dodgers didn't take Valentine too. Commish, I meant to pick Arizona. Please change Patrick and my picks. I mean this guy on Sibley thinks every pick he takes is a winner. A whiner maybe, and his fame is fleeting faster than you can spell Nebrasskkkaa! It's nice to hear nothing from Connecticut. Cuz Wayne is very quiet. his golf game must be off(again). Commish, you need to launch an investigation into the possibility that Ed does not really exist. Perception is reality. Luke you must be working a lot without much time to focus on your picks. Marcus seems to have sympathy pains for you.

Email Notification
Out of frustration, I left blogger help section and googled how to have more than 10 email notifications for posts. At EHow, I got the answer. I have added a gadget at the end of the blog posts. Scroll down to the last post and find "Follow by E-mail". Put in the email address you want notifications sent to and click submit. You will be redirected to a security page that will require you to reproduce a funky word and then click submit. An email will be sent to your address for confirmation. Click on the confirmation link, and you will get an email confirming that you will sent email notifications of new posts.
Right now this only applies to Scott and any new members going forth or if you are not getting email of posts. If you are, don't use this or you will get two notifications of each post.

Thursday Night is a Tie so far
Some notes:
- Kev and Jo both picked the Pack; The Commish and Diane the Bears. Should be a good game.
- I have gotten private email from members making picks and observations about league matters. While I appreciate any correspondance, it would be best if members used the GoZone blog for communication, in that other members can then see the issues people have and the picks they have made. If you cannot access the blog, send me an email and I will try to troubleshoot the problem.
- Email notification of posts is limited to 10 members. I have taken myself off the list, and Scott, our newest blog user cannot get them either. I have been investigation workarounds for this problem, and there may be two. One is for everyone to become a follower of the blog. I assume that means that they are informed if someone posts to it, but I am not sure. Secondly, each member can go into the settings area of the blog and put in the addresses of other members. This might cause each member to get a dozen emails for each post though. I will continue to look into the matter. In the meantime, if anyone does not value the email notification of posts, let me know and I will take your name off that list.

Week 1 Results Update
During the weekly review of league members picks, the commissioner found that Easy Ed's Monday night pick of the Raiders was in error. The amended results are shown below. Ed is now tied with Kate for points leader. Coincidentally, Patrick posted the same information. However, the Commissioner could not act on his observation because, according to league by-laws, members must make change requests themselves for the Commissioner to authorize a review. No member proxies are allowed. In this case, because of the Commissioner's extraordinary attention to detail, the review went forth.
Anyone Home?
My dad is getting impatient. He wants his corrected score now. Any longer and he might actually have to make his own posts... yeah right.

More BWI-ing
Not so fast commish. My dad clearly picked the Chargers. Check my post. Everyone should double check their picks/points too. I think we may need an impartial third party to double check all picks and tally all points since the commish and his assistants, Rob Roy and Jack Daniels, can't be trusted.

Week One Observations from the Commissioner
Some random observations from week 1:
Remember, there is a Thursday night game almost every week, so get those picks in as soon as you can. The Commissioner's office remains in his New Hampshire retreat, so staff and time is limited.
Here is this week's schedule:
- Newcomers Diane and Kirk won the Picks of the Week. Diane with her pick of Dallas over the Giants, and Kirk with the only pick of the Redskins over the Saints. A great way to start! Congratulations.
- The points leader after week 1 is Kate. With a 12-4 week and two Monday night wins, she totaled 14 points for the week. Close behind was Cousin Wayne with 13, then Ed and Kevin with 12. Mike, Marc, Jo and Scott had 11.
- Both unanimous picks won. Philly beat Cleveland and the Pats beat the Titans.
- Week One went off smoothly. There were no glitches, and the Commissioner's office was on top of things as usual. The Commissioner continues to appreciate the backing of league members and the Senior Advisory Council.

Chicago
Well, I don't know how the Bears won when the Falcons and Chiefs were the two teams but I have an idea this was some creative way that the Commish has come up with to make sure no one runs the board! Actually I think Rob Roy won. Patrick would agree with that. I want to work in the office of the Commish mostly due to the fact he is on vacation most of the year. Jack Daniels is his top assistant. Way to smack the Commish Kate! I have to go now to see if the Ravens can win the Chargers-Raiders game! Can't beat this pool.

Since the Commish is so unsure of what I am talking about the proof is in the pudding my friends...
As you can clearly see below in the original post, please take notice to Scott's pick of the Atlanta vs KC game. Which was my original argument...Chicago?? Really?
This is me throwing the challenge flag!
Don't let the Commish fool you. I think someone has had one too many Rob Roy's. Or maybe he is simply getting too OLD and close to retirement as the Commish?! Someone should be tasked to check behind him. Doesn't he have an assistant? He makes enough money to employ one!
Yes, that may just be the answer! This could aid in future mistakes.
Drinking on the job AND fabricating the truth, I think the Senior Advisory Committee (emphasis on the senior) would be interested in hearing about this.....as long as their hearing aids and eyes have been checked

Not Sure What the Mowells are Takling about
I am a bit confused by the last post from South Carolina. The grid clearly shows Scott's choice as the Falcons. However, the next meeting of the Senior Advisory Committee will take this up as part of its agenda. Blog on, Blogters!

Falcons vs KC
I believe the Commish has been BWI-ing AGAIN.....
Scott picked the falcons to win vs KC, not the Chicago Bears
I was unaware that 3 teams are eligible to play in a single game. Is this a new development by the Commish or the league? If so, what are the revisions? Are there extra points available? What are the rules of this new and improved football game?
i.e. Falcons vs KC vs Chicago Bears

Picks Reminder from the Commissioner
Members should be aware that picks made on an early Wednesday or Thursday game cannot be changed when the other games' picks are sent. For instance, if a member picked the Giants as the Wednesday night winner, that member cannot choose the Cowboys when sending in his Sunday picks.
A small but important point.

Severance Rules!!
Holy Cow! Diane is quick out of the gates (that was for Ed) with a pick of the week after the first game of the season! Way to go Diane. Enjoy the "congratulations" you will inevitably get from well-wishing league members.

Wednesday Pics
Here are Wednesday's picks so far:
I need your picks before the start of the Giants/Cowboys game. The rest should be in before 1:00 on Sunday, but as early as possible so I can publish everyone's picks.

Welcome Husker, SeveranceRules, Defending Champion, etal
The Commissioner's office has responded to the recent spate of blog posts as follows:
*Member dues are $10.00 per year. To date, no member has ever paid them.
- The Commish is pleased with the general high spirits and respect being shown league members. Let's remember to keep this high standard going forward.
- Diane Robinson nearly confounded the Blogger society by responding to the GoZone invitation with a different email address than the one she used to be invited. Luckily the Commish was able to mobilize his tech and law staffs to avoid any calamity. Welcome aboard Diane.
- The current Chappie recipient, Patrick O'Leary, was more gracious than anticipated in his new season welcome back. Way to go, Patrick. By the way, all Chappie and Millie awards are purchased through money from member dues.* It usually takes two weeks to get the awards once ordered.
- Members Ryan and Bran have sent in new images for the pics grid. Other members may do so as well, but be reminded that the space is limited in the grid and most images will need to be cropped.
- Senior Advisory Member Kevin has impressed the Commish with his reserve and alacrity so far this season. Keep up the good spirits, Kev.

Cornhusker on board
Well, we are now living the good life in Nebraska, hopefully far enough away from all the hot air coming out of south Florida.
Once again, congrats to the new defending champ...way to go Patrick. All but one of us has the class and sense of good sportsmanship to applaud an outstanding performance.
That said, buckle up your chinstraps, 'cause it's a new season!
I see the sign on the Commish's office says "out to lunch." Of course, he's always been out to lunch.
I'll be getting my picks in over the next few days.
Cuz

Audible Grunt Part Two
I hear something coming up from Florida and it's not a hurricane, just a lot of hot air and snark full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
It seems during the off season the Commish has temporarily relocated the Commissioner's Office up north. I suspect this is in an attempt to evade owners dissatisfied with the alleged corruption, cronyism and general incompetence of the office. I call for change you can believe in and we built that, whatever that is.
Anyway when will the ceremony to present the Chappie Award to last year's Champion (me) be held? I wish to file a complaint with the Commissioner's Office over this outrageous injustice.
In it to win it again,
Patrick, the Defending Champ.

Enough
Okay, enough of that useless, half-entertaining diatribe fom Patrick. Such a pompous remark "defending champ". He should have been on the convention floor in Tampa! He could have spoken right after Clint. So where are the comments from Connecticut? We should review the decsion to let Diane and Kirk in. Come on Commish! They are silently acting like Cuz Wayne. You know, having no good opinion about any sport ever played.

audible grunt
(Audible grunt).
The wait is over. I’m here.
Greetings to all members, welcome. To all returning members,
welcome back to another season of arithmetic errors, asterisks, malcontent
members, pending penalty point deductions and various other grievances with the
commissioner’s office. To all new members, welcome to the Go Zone, which is only
active during the football season apparently. Anyway it’s fun… really it is,
right? But seriously welcome all to another exciting season of the NFL here at
the Go Zone. Have fun, be safe and drink responsibly while making your picks.
Here we go!
Sincerely yours,
Patrick, the Defending Champ.
PS: A reminder, all member dues must be sent to the
commissioner’s office ASAP!

Back At It
To All:
Welcome to Diane and Kirk. Great time at the camp this summer. Nothing is sacred though in the pool.
Where is the welcome from the Chappie Award winner Patrick. Could he please make some type of audible grunt to acknowledge the new year!
Who won the year before? Oh, that was me. No asterisk Brandy.
The commish has been on vacation. It will seem that way all season long.
Cuz Wayne, you can move but you can not hide.
SeanO, I hope you get out of the gate a bit sooner this year.
Jo and Brandy would like daily roster reports on all teams. Not going to happen.
Scott, try to make your own picks this year.
Kate, listen to your one-year-old for advise.
Uncle Ed, best of luck to the phantom picker.
Best to all

Week One Schedule
Here it is, valued GoZone members. The Schedule for Week One.
Of course, the season will not officially open until last year's Chappie Award winner posts his welcome.
The rules are that picks should be emailed, posted to the GoZone or phone to me (239-404-6140) before gametime. It is permissible to send in a Wednesday or Thursday game singularly, then finish the picks by the first game on Sunday.
Any members who do not want to participate this season, please notify me so I can remove your name and image from the pics grid.
