The reason a member leads at any particular time, and especially this year, is a total mystery. I believe Brandy and Ryan have a complicated system of evaluating the relative strength of each team's name, such as Falcons are stronger than Seahawks. Yet, or perhaps because of this, she was the winner of the 2010 regular season (The Millie Award). Kevin, who is hugely informed in his own mind, did win the playoffs (The Chappie Award) and the Commish won the 2011 regular season, but newcomer Patrick won the overall playoffs.
In fact, researching the sports pages to make informed picks seems useless as well. The average for the experts at ESPN, CBS, NBC and Sports Illustrated are all barely over .500, if that. In fact, the only member of the league that I know of who actually played football at the high school level is Lucas, and he is at or near the bottom each week, although I have witnessed his method for picking and it makes Brandy and Ryan look like they are Peter King, the most informed of all the experts in my opinion.
After deep and heavily medicated thought, I have determined that the weekly and season long results are pre-ordained by Fate, and just as fickle.
