Week 3 Observations

1. JoJo Rules! Jo won the week at 13-3 and the Monday night pick. Kevin, Marcus and Luke followed with 12-5. This was Luke's best week, but hard to tell how. When I phoned him for his picks on Sunday morning, he was sleeping in the back seat of a car driven by his friend Tom. He didn't know where he was coming from or where he was going to. In his defense, it was a bit early at 11:30.

2. JoJo Wins Pick of the Week! JoJo and Kevin watched the Patriot game at my house, and I can attest to JoJo's competitiveness. She was tracking the Eagles/Giants game assiduously, and whooped with joy when the Giants won.

3. Marc and Luke, Jo and Bran-Ryan Are Second in Picks of the Week! Marc and Luke both picked the 49ers over the Bengals. Jo and B-Ry picked the Seahawks. Nicely done there.

4. Unanimous Picks Did Well, Except for You-Know-Who! The Saints, the Chargers, the Ravens, the Packers and the Steelers all won.

5. Kevin Ascends! After a disastrous start, Kevin is creeping up in the standings, thus proving that if there is a God, he is indifferent to the concept of justice in this world.

6.

The Commissioner's Week 4 Picks

Lions over the Cowboys. It will take more than field goals to beat Detroit.

Eagles over the 49ers. Long trip, last week Eagles loss do in San Fran.

Vikings over the Chiefs. The first of many Andrew Luck Bowls.

Rams over Redskins. Rams are desperate at home.

Saints over Jags. Just a much better team.

Titans over Browns. Titans defense and offence are both better than expected.

Steelers over the Texans. Still not sold on Houston.

Bills over the Bungles. Bills look good; Bungles not so much.

Da Bears over Da Panthers. Chicago is bigger, stronger, slower and more omnivorous.

Falcons over the Seahawks. A falcon will always beat a seahawk.

Giants over the Cardinals. Hard to pick any of that NFC West group.

Packers over the Broncos.  A battle of the best and the worst.

Chargers over the Dolphins. Long trip for nothing for Miami.

Patriots over the Raiders. This is a huge game, and Brady seldom has two bad games in a row.

Ravens over the Jets. Two trash-talking teams tangle together to temporarily toggle tremendous…ah, screw it.

Buccaneers over the Colts. No more chilling words than “Curtis Painter to the rescue."

What ther hell is this?

Who's in charge here? I thought it was Mike, but looking at this board it seems that fiend Kev is up to his usual tricks.

Check my picks post again, Mr. Commissioner. I'm no genius, but never this season am I likely to pick the Chiefs in a game.

AND - I certainly didn't pick them this week against San Diego.

I demand a correction, pronto...

snap snap, move it, move it...right now!

Obvious Observations

Brady & the Pats kinda sucked today.

"Obviously, that's not the way we want to play," said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. "We got to do better."

No duh.

Damn, Ed's initial prediction was right. The Bills won.

Week 3 Picks Observations

1.     Four teams are unanimous picks: Pats, Saints, Packers and Steelers.
2.     Monday night will be interesting. It is split 6-6 and counts for two points.
3.     Gutsy Picks of the Week. Jo for her Giants pick, Bran and Ryan for their Vikings pick, Wayne for his Chiefs pick.
4.     Kind of Gutsy Picks of the Week. Marcus and Lucas for their 49ers picks, Lucas and Bran and Ryan for their Jags picks, Wayne and Scott for their Rams picks.
5.     How to Think Alike Picks;  Kate and Scott agree on all but the Ravens at the Rams.
6.     First to make picks: Marcus.
7.     Last to make picks: Lucas.

The Commissioner's Week 3 Picks

Bengals over the 49ers.  Bungles are improving, and home field will make the difference

Patriots over the Bills. Hard to bet against Brady these days.

Saints over Texans. Texans have the second best defense in the league, statistically, but they have played the Colts and the Dolphins. Saints at home.

Eagles over the Giants. Neither have been that impressive, but Vick looks like he can play when injured and Eli looks like he can’t even when he isn’t.

Browns over the Dolphins. Both teams are disappointments this year, but Miami seems like they are close to imploding.

Titans over the Broncos. No team can win consistently when they have a quarterback controversy, even when the controversy is solely in their fans’ heads.

Lions over the Vikings. Two  teams going in opposite directions. Lions are on a mission.

Panthers over the Jags. Panthers have the more experienced quarterback, believe it or not.  Jags are playing scared.

Chargers over the Chiefs. Where have you gone Charlie Weiss?

Raiders over the Jets. Just a hunch, but the Jets looked lucky against the Cowboys, and Oakland has some talent at the skill positions. Seymour sacks Sanchez twice!

Ravens over the Rams. Rams not there yet. Neither are the Ravens but they are closer.

Bucs over the Falcons. Falcons looked a little soft on defense, and Bucs are at home.

Cardinals over the Seahawks. Seattle looking past this game to the 2012 draft.

Packers over the Bears. Cutler calls out his O line for good reason. Packers take advantage as only they can.

Steelers over the Colts. Colts are close to packing it in, and this game might do it.

Redskins over the Cowboys. Did you see Romo try to get off a chair after his interview on NFL Live this week? He could barely do it. Now he will quarterback a professional football team? I don’t care how gutsy he is, that will hurt.

Picks Rules

Kevin brought up a valid point (you don't know how hard is was for me to type that) when he referenced the timing of picks. As long as the picks are received before gametime, they  are valid and can be changed right up to gametime with email, the GOZone blog, or a phone call.

In order for members to be able to see other members' picks, using the blog to post them is advised. The picks are then published and dated, so no irresponsible challenges of cover-ups and undo influence should be issued.

Remember, if you want to change a pick, email, blog or call before the starting time of that particular game. The Commissioner has spoken.

BTW, my son Luke has poured and polished the following, amongst many others: The Jets training facility on Long Island, the national 911 Memorial in Pennsylvania,  and an Army logo using colored concrete. (See below)

I am deeply disturbed by the "Defender's" unfounded accusation of cover ups that has been aimed at the Commissioner's Office. I think a formal reprimand for unsportsmanlike conduct should be handed out to the "Defender".

The "Defender" should also receive a penalty for unimaginative name calling.

Fight back Commish!

Jeez Commish, put this spoiled brat in his place, as should have been done during his diaper days.

Uh...he's not still wearing them, is he?

Happy birthday to Amy. I told her to enjoy the day and that means not watching the "great slide" known as the Red Sox. Crawford has been worth it. Lackey is awesome. Dice-who? How much is tied up in those three$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Also nice to see what they have on the farm. Bedard is a keeper. I love JD. I can't say enough about Tito(Cuz's favorite manager). League-leading runs and hits are extremely misleading.
Back to the Commish. It appears I already have been docked points! Also, when and where did the Post Ghost submit this week's picks? Is there a cover-up in the Commish's office? Now that is critical thinking. Karen, does he whine about his golf game this much? Someone please tell him we have until sunday to pick! I understand how defending champs become marked people. It is just so blatant. And is there any word about Marcus the Peterborough Punk? How about Patrick, the nocturnal nomad? Nothing from Luke, the Concord cementhead. Minus points if you pick against the Pats. I even have the Georgia boy picking the Pats! Post Ghost and Cuz, don't get used to the rare air. Pretty likely your year will go like the Sox. Enjoy it now!

Commissioner Attacked!

Kevin communicated the following to the commissioner's office:

Commish:
A harmful foul has occurred. After going 9-7 and 12-4 I and two monday night wins I should have 23 points. The standings show 22!  Where is the accountability of the league office? Millie, please forgive him! I don't see Brandy crying about this one!!! Just can't have mistakes like this in the middle of the battle! FFFFFFFOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overheated Bro

An investigation has been initiated. It should be noted that currently Kevin is the subject of two league office investigations and has been put on the PPP list (Potential Penalty Points). And, he continues to overuse exclamation points by half!!!!!!!

The Decline of Tom Brady

It is a testament to Tom Brady's talent that when he missed hitting his receivers twice in a row on Sunday, I thought to myself, "What  is wrong with Brady? Did that low hit really hurt him? Is he too old?"

Then, this morning I read that on both plays his receivers were not where they were suppose to be.

Whew!

Ed is nuts

Patrick said the the Post Ghost will pick the Bills over the Pats. Interesting, considering he picked the Chiefs over the Bills week one and the Raiders over the Bills week two. I think his strategy  is to lose on the Bills pick every week.

Either that or he is insane!

MNF Observation

It all began with a gutsy pick, the Rams? After a few downs and a fairly decent opening drive I thought to myself “OK, this might not be that bad.” As the game progressed and after many 3 and outs by both teams my next thought was “they still have a chance to pull this off.” But then it was becoming very clear that the game was beginning to resemble McKenzie’s poopy diaper. I ended it with a quick change of the channel and this thought, “the roast of Charlie Sheen is far more entertaining!”

Let’s just chalk this one up to PPB…….postpartum brain!

Monday Morning Observations from the Commish

1.     Did you see Antonio Gates? He looked like a nose tackle!
2.     Pats defense is worrisome. How many passes were completed to backs out of the backfield?
3.     Five of six unanimous picks won: Pats, Lions, Jets, Steelers and Packers. Only the Ravens lost. What happened to them?
4.     The Commish and son Marc take the week’s prize for upset picks of Bucs over Vikes.
5.     Lucas and Kate might tie them with a Rams win tonight.
6.     Patrick says Ed is picking the Bills over the Pats next week. Yet he picked the Raiders over the Bills this week. Does that mean he will pick the Raiders over the Pats as well?
7. Working for the government does something to people. Note the following:

Ed is predicting a Bills victory next week. To paraphrase Ed "Pats suck. Go Bills!"

Amended Week 2 Picks

Jo called to inform the league office of a mix-up involving her Jets/Jags pick, the discovery of a two sun planet, and Sarah Palin's pre-marriage dating habits. Needless to say, the amended picks grid is below.

Observations from the Commish

1.     Total Agreement: Ravens, Lions, Steelers, Packers, Patriots.
2.     Games in Play: Many points will be made and lost on the following games—Raiders/Bills, Cardinals/Redskins, Cowboys/49ers, Texans/Dolphins, Bengals/Broncos and Eagles/Falcons. All should be good games.
3.     Gutsy picks of the Week: Jo for picking the Jags, Mike and Marc for picking the Colts and the Bucs, Luke and Kate for picking the Rams.
4.     First One in with Picks (aside from the Commish): Cousin Wayne
5.     Last One in with Picks: Luke (all time record holder!)

The Phantom

I like the ghost post...however...I smell a bit of gamesmanship. I believe Ed and Pat are attempting to get into the heads of the competition...This owner is here it tell you it's not working! The experience and veteranship in this "zone" is much to strong for any such tomfoolery...Good effort.

Also, Wayne crying to the commish and submitting formal complaints for "late" picks being made will not be tolerated by this owner. As long as there are no actions detrimental to the Go Zone, I feel the pick post time stamp of 5 minutes before gametime is sufficient...Similar to the Patriots injury report each week, its part of the game...of course this will need to addressed with the lawyers of the commish's office...which could take some time.

Please note the excessive and improper use of ellipses intended to disorient the commish, his statistician and fellow pickers.

Yours in picking,
SeanO
The Dynamic Duo find themselves in 100% agreement this week after a lengthy

Week 1 Statistics Revised

The commissioner's Office statistician submitted erroneous results for last week. It seems he didn't account for the second Monday Night game. Below is the corrected grid.

As you can see, this is not good news for Kevin, who is now tied for second to last. To put it another way:

Ed       16
Pat       15
Wayne 14
Jo        12
Kate    12
Luke    11
Sean     11
B-Ry    11
Mike    11
Scott    10
Kevin   10
Marc      9

BTW, it's Saturday. Wayne likes me to post the picks early, but I need everryone to send them. Sending them by posting to The GOZone is the best way for everyone to know everyone else's picks.

Commissioner's Office Review

The Commissioner's office is reviewing member Kevin's insults, insinuations and sarcasm toward the Commissioner and fellow members. An investigation suggests that Kevin not only be fined, but that he be penalized points from his overall win total.

In a separate action, the league office has fined Kevin for overuse of question marks in his last post.

Whiney Kev wants to change the scoring rules?

Good Gawd, is there no end to his arrogant, unsportsmanlike conduct?

And...by the way, isn't there a penalty in football for unsportsmanlike conduct?

15 yards...15 points...something like that.

Foul

Commish:
How could you fine this owner for asking for fairness????????? Where is your due diligence and doody? A mockery of the GO-Zone!! Who is this guy Ed? Is there any response to changing the point system to one point for every regular season SUNDAY game but two points for a game on any other day. Not to change last week because I wouldn't want to hear the tremendous amount of whining. Nice to see Marcus and newcomer Scott floundering after one week! Kate got lucky and Cuz must have sent three or four in after the games were played! That's what Bran did and she still lost seven!!!!! This thing is just starting to heat up. Watched the sun go down tonight along with Ed's picks this week. Has B-Ry certified the points yet for last week? Sean didn't tell her Manning was out so I suppose she should really be 16-0. Nice start for Luke "Cementhead" O'Leary. I'm waiting for his picks to look like his finish work----rough!! Jo is trashing the commish for not sending the injury reports! Patrick should be fined for staying up too late and scouring ESPN

Kevin was fined by the Commissioner's office for excessive use of exclamation points.

Here is his email to the league office:

Commish,

The league office needs to clean up the sarcasm and negativity coming from some owners being directed toward "The Defender".  How does a phantom go 14-2? Bran brought her whine with her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Commish's Picks for Week 2

Here we go: (Favorite underlined)

Saints over da Bears. Still don't believe in the Bears.

Lions over Chiefs. Two  teams going in opposite directions.

Jets over Jags. No Brainer.

Bills over Raiders. Two teams on the rise.

Redskins over Cards. Home team wins.

Ravens over Titans. Mismatch here.

Steelers over Seahawks. Ditto.

Packers over Panthers. Ditto II.

Bucs over Vikings. 39 yards passing?

Colts over Browns. If Indy can't beat Browns at home,  it is all over.

Cowboys over 49ers. Let's hope it isn't close enough at the end for Romo to blow it.

Dolphins over Texans. Fins better than thought, and playing at home after a loss.

Pats over Chargers. Bolts can't pull the upset this early in the season.

Broncos over Bengals. Ortin fighting for his life.

Falcons over Eagles. Falcons can't start 0-2.

Giants over Rams. But it will be close.

The returning champ went 9-7. Hmmm, I guess that's not bad for almost 60.

Week 1 Observations

Some observations from the Commissioner's office:

1. Watch out! There is a disturbance in the force! The end of days is near! Ed is our leader after week 1!
Wayne also did well, tying newcomer Patrick at 13-3. Jo was next with 11-5.

2. No one bombed out. Everyone at least broke even.

3. Gutsy pick of the week: Bills over the Chiefs, by the Commish.

4. The following owners beat Kevin: Ed, Wayne, Patrick, Mike, Luke, Jo and Kate.

5. All three unanimous owner picks won: the Eagles, the Chargers and the Pats.

6. Worst picks for most members? The Chiefs at 1-11, the Browns at 2-10, the Giants at 4-8, the Broncos at 5-7, and the Falcons at 6-6.

Week 1 Results

Here it is, and it isn't pretty!

You might want to check your record. I was pretty hammered when I compiled them.

tap, tap, tap...

I waiting not too patiently here...

Adding Zero

Those losses can be tricky to add. However, Kev did give some great advice about adding zero this week. Perhaps he can assist with the score.

Bran & Ryan

Where are the results?

Do we even have a commissioner?

Or does he just need more time to "fix" Kev's 6 or so losses?

Week One Picks are in!

Some observations:
1. Unanimous picks:  The Eagles over the Rams, the Chargers over the Vikes, and the Patriots over Miami.
2. We'll See. Everyone but the commissioner picked the Chiefs over the Bills,
3. Most evenly divided: Falcons-Bears at 6 and 6, Raiders-Broncos at 6-6.
4. Pretty evenly divided: Cowboys-Jets at 4-8, Giants-Redskins at 8-4, and Steelers-Ravens at 8-4.
5. Gutsy Picks of the Week: The Commish for his Bills pick, Marcus and B-Ry for their Seahawk picks, B-Ry and Lucas for their Panthers picks, B-ry and Scott don't get gutsy picks for their Bucs picks because I think the Bucs are favored in Tampa Bay.
6. Emotional Pick of the Week: Marc said he just couldn't stand picking the Jets, so he went with the Cowboys.

Jarring Jo Go-Zone Post

Let the trashtalk continue... it has begun.... Don't forget who came in overall second last season with a few great pics in the end and the undeniable correct answer to The Commish's secret question ..... even though my slicing daughter-in-law oh I mean outlaw Brandy tried to convince The Commish that I "cheated!" Thanks Commish for holding strong for me.

Kev's thinks he's leading the way with his trash talk; however, I see Brandy as a major contender and I think she has trumped all prior to Thursday night kickoff. Wayne & Patrick come close. Jarring Jo has decided it is much more interesting reading all the Go-Zone posts than watching any pre-game gibberish on TV (although, I absolutely love the pregame musical groups and music)!!

Commish, you're taking heat already, and justly so. Your job deems it so -- because, of course, you haul down the big bucks in your position. Unlike us lowly GO-Zone participants who only have the wit of pen to voice our opinions be they fair or nasty.

In conclusion, let the games begin, GO, FIGHT (AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE A FUN SEASON TO THE END), WIN and I WILL, I WILL ROCK YOU, ROCK YOU !!!!!

Yours in the GO-Zone Spirit, Jarring Jo

Thursday Night Picks

We've created a monster! Wayne insisted—INSISTED—that I post the Thursday night pics before the game! Apparently he thinks that somehow Kevin will benefit if this isn't done. So, here are the picks:

Interestingly enough, the ever resourceful B-Ry (Brandy and Ryan, shortened to fit in the grid) and newcomer Scott have picked the Saints. A very gutsy, and doable, pick. They could jump to the lead if successful!

Let's hope Scott gets me a head and shoulders picture soon!

Also, welcome to Patrick. His picture suggests he is a scruffy rapscallion!

Also, also, I have reordered the picks according to age and the connections to the family. Wayne and Ed, being the oldest if not wisest, are first, and Ed's son Patrick is placed next to him. Then the Commish and his, and then Kevin and his. I anticipate all sorts of conspiracy theories, but the Commish has spoken!

I would like to officially change my pick to the team that is not the Colts. I'm not sure who they are playing, but if Manning isn't playing I wouldn't pick them. I asked Sean if there was any big news I should now. Specifically I asked if there were any QBs out. He said no! He must be intimidated by my performance last season. I'm sure there are other things I don't know about, but I'll stick with the rest of my picks for now. Commish, I will be waiting anxiously with my calculator for the Week 1 score. As for Kevin, you can talk all you want... but Ryan's speech makes more sense than your babble.

The Commish's Picks for Week 1

WE welcome Wayne to the GO Zone. He is now an author on the site!

Green Bay over the Saints—But it is close
Philly over the Rams—Just too much there for the rising Rams
Atlanta over Chicago—The Bears are kind of messed up right now.
Buffalo over the Chiefs— Matt Cassel has some damaged ribs.
Da Browns over Da Bungles—Bengles going for #1 pick.
Pittsburgh over the Ravens—again.
Jacksonville over Titans—Chris Johnson gets hurt in the 1st quarter.
Texans over Colts—Manning had another neck surgery this morning. He is day to day.
Lions over Bucs—Tampa Bay doesn’t sneak up on anybody anymore.
Giants over Redskins—Neither team is solid, but Giants have stable QB situation.
49ers over Seattle—Who cares?
Chargers over Minnesota—May not even be close.
Cardinals over Carolina—Welcome to reality, Cam.
Cowboys over the Jets—Rex Ryan said Cowboy fans in the stadium could be in danger of getting hurt. Way to go, Rex!
Pats over Miami—Pats are better than last year, but may not have as good a record.
Denver over Oakland—Oakland swept them last year, so it’s payback time.
test pattern, test pattern...
Reports of any fictitious people on Sibley Terrace can neither be confirmed nor denied... but Pat is in it to win it. Watch your back "Defender".

Pat who

Is this another fictitious person on Sibley Terrace? Do we have any other new additions? The Commish needs to stay on top of such breaking news. Scott wants in. Has he been brave enough to respond? How about Kate the Great? Karen? Wait a second, I just heard that Cuz Wayne hasn't submitted his picks yet due to a faulty email system and he dropped his glasses in the soup trying type Chicago! A new excuse!!! How about cementhead Lucas? Chef boy-r-dee Marcus?

where is it

First, where is my trophy? Secondly, I feel a midwest collapse coming on again. Thirdly, Cuz Karen should have her own picks. Fourthly, is Uncle Ed a real person? Fifthly, will Cuz Wayne ever get on the blog? How many invitations can one entity send him? He had more invitations than losses last year so you know that is a big number. Sixthly, all motions for change were tabled by two Rob Roys nightly over the summer. Seventhly, the Commish has a contract extension lasting until JD Drew retires. Eightly, why does Lucas, Kate and Marcus even play this game? Best to all as I start my title defense thursday. WAIT, Brandy is still counting the points from last year! One will win and Wayne will whine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 2011 Season

Time to get going on the new season. Potential new members (Scott and Patrick) should send me an image file for a head and shoulders above your pics. All pics due before game time.

My goal this year is to get everyone (even Wayne and Ed) on the GoZone blog. I will individually help anyone having trouble doing this.

Over the summer, the Board of Governors met because of member complaints about trash talking (Kevin), poor sportsmanship (Kevin) and poor record keeping (the Commish). Severe and strong regulations have been suggested, but the Board has decided not to act at this point. Expect to meet with Board investigators however.
